How to donate your hair
You can donate your hair so it can be made into a wig to be worn by someone affected by hair loss.
One company many of our fundraisers donate to is Freedom Hair. Their customers include cancer patients who have suffered hair loss as a side effect of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy.
To donate your hair, it must:
- be longer than 35.5cm
- not be coloured, permed or processed in any way
- not have been dropped on the floor when cutting
- not be a mix of grey and coloured hairs - must be either all grey or all coloured.
How it works
Freedom Hair have instructions on their donation form for how to part and tie your hair in preparation for cutting it.
Your hair needs to meet all the conditions above and be clean and dry.
The easiest way to have your ponytails cut would be to have a hairdresser do it for you before styling your shorter hair, however, you have the option to cut your ponytails yourself.
Next, put your cut ponytails in a bag and send them with your donation form to Freedom Hair.

As part of the process, Freedom Hair will pay you for your hair. If you prefer your hair to be a donation, you can ask for the payment to be donated to the Cancer Society or another charity of your choice.
