Cancer talks, groups & courses - January to June 2017


To support those with cancer, the Cancer Society run talks, courses and groups for anyone affected by cancer including whānau or family of those affected by cancer. Our upcoming events are held throughout the greater Wellington region. Most sessions are free. Koha or donations appreciated.

Breast Cancer Under 50’s group, 4th Tuesday of the month- 6pm-7.30pm

Yoga and relaxation, Tuesdays 11.30am - 12 noon or 12:30pm

Relaxation and Massage, Tuesdays daytime

Walking Group, Monday's Daytime.  Exercising during and after cancer treatment is known to help with fatigue, mood, sleep, side effects and risk of recurrence. We are starting up a weekly walking group for patients, survivors, carers, family and friends. This will be a gentle walk of up to one hour- including a coffee stop. Please wear loose and comfortable clothing. Commencing Monday March 6th Meet at the Cancer Society 52 Riddiford St Newtown at 9.30am to be ready to leave at 9.45am. Walkers will be accompanied by Cancer Society staff.

Blood Lymphoma Leukemia and Myeloma Support Group. Saturday meetings x4 a year with a  shared lunch.Partners/ spouses welcome. Dates to be advised.

Dragon Boating Team. Cancer Society Wairarapa Dragon Boat Team. Open to all cancer survivors and their supporters for fun and fitness.

Volunteer Driving Service; If you are having treatment out of the area and have no-one who can transport you we offer the volunteer driving team.

Lymphoedema Support group: dates of meetings to be advised for 2017.

Living with Bowel Cancer Programme. This is 4 session informative course is about learning to cope and live with your cancer legacy.

Public Education Seminars. Information sessions with a focus on health promotion & cancer July Update Bowel Cancer Screening programme pilot in the Wairarapa.

Look Good Feel Better Course. A free one day workshop offered to women undergoing treatment for cancer. Let us put a smile on your face when you are pampered for a day. Ring for information about the next programme.

Moving On after Cancer. These 4 week 2 hour sessions, are for those completing treatment and asking what now? Call us to enroll.
