Cancer Concern Petition - Let's Catch Up To Aussie!
Australasia has the highest cancer rate in the world and New Zealand is lagging behind in access to some cancer treatments compared to Australia.
"NZ’s access to cancer drugs is worse than in the UK or Australia. I don't know of an oncologist who says our access to cancer drugs is world class or is as good as UK or Aus...PHARMAC does a good job of getting cheap drugs for NZ, but it is slow, and very conservative in their decisions, meaning that they show little appetite for funding of newer and emerging treatments, particularly cancer drugs." - Dr Chris Jackson, Oncologist and Cancer Society Medical Director
This has been big news over the last few weeks and we want to keep the conversation going. New Zealand is lagging behind other countries, namely Australia, in our access to cancer treatments.
We want to hear from people like you about this issue.
Cancer is currently responsible for 30% of all deaths within New Zealand and sadly the latest report from the World Health Organisation estimates that the number of New Zealanders affected by cancer will increase to 50% over the next 12 to15 years. It's important to note that these statistics do not include survivorship rates. This will mean a huge increase in the demand for our services.
Join us in our advocacy to address the disparity in access to cancer medicines which see New Zealand lagging far behind other countries, namely Australia.
